Equality Rights Central - Monitors Equality Rights (LEAF)

http://www.equalityrightscentral.com/canada_equality_rights_law.php?page=home

Welcome to Equality Rights Central (ERC), a place to find cases, commentary, trends, news and facta about equality and discrimination issues, in law and policy.

This site is for advocates, academics and practitioners involved in equality rights, to monitor and advance the development of equality law in Canada.

Equality Rights Central is dedicated to promoting substantive equality for all disadvantaged and marginalized groups.

As a project sponsored by the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), ERC approaches the goal of substantive equality by recognizing that patterns of disadvantage and oppression exist in society.   Substantive equality looks to the effects of laws, policies and practices to determine the equality impacts, recognizing that in order to achieve equality, there is often a need to respond to  historically and socially based differences by treating people differently, rather than the merely formal approach of treating everyone the same way.
Cases and legislation are highlighted on ERC because they have an impact on equality rights.  News and editorials are chosen to show how an equality issue is being portrayed to the public – in a positive or negative light.  Equality Rights Central focuses on cases in development, at the lower court, and tribunal level.  The site makes no claim, however, to being exhaustive of all the equality issues worthy of discussion.
Equality Rights Central is updated bi-weekly, so check back often for something new in the equality discourse.
